Tatum’s Gambit A Go Or No?

It’s been around five years now since the internet learned that the card-throwing mutant Gambit would be coming to the big screen… again. This time in his own film, portrayed by Magic Mike himself, Channing Tatum. The Cajan superhero has been one of the most popular X-Men and undoubtedly the most anticipated to watch since Deadpool – I stand firmly behind that fact. The film, however, has been searching for the right director for a long time which leaves fans to wonder, is it still coming? Is it going to have to be directed by Channing Tatum himself?

It all seems so familiar to the path Ryan Reynolds took to get his Merc’ with a Mouth, the proper Deadpool films fans have craved for after the character received an unwanted transformation in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now, reports claim that the 21 Jump Street star might just have to direct the movie himself seeing as so many filmmakers have pulled out from the film.

Fan Art of Channing Tatum as
Remy LeBeau’s Gambit

Even though a script is reportedly finished, there hasn’t been any talks on production start date but according to it’s IMDB page the release date is 13th March 2020. “I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it,” producer Simon Kinberg told IGN last year.

We know in the past that Channing has expressed his love for the character numerous times, even practicing a Cajun accent. We do hope that we get to see Remy LeBeau hit theatres again very soon – previously played by Taylor Kitsch. With the buyout of 20th Century Fox by Disney, one has to wonder if this is why the film has been delayed inevitably or will we get to see Gambit throwing cards alongside the rest of the MCU next year.

Who knows?
